The SKYCITY Breakers holding an annual ‘Summer Camp’, for under 16, 18 and 19 basketball players.
The purpose for hosting this camp is to identify potential SKYCITY Breakers players and introduce them to our culture and values. The ‘Summer Camp’ will provide each player with the opportunity to develop their skills, and learn about basketball systems and structures in five practice sessions.
The camp includes:
- Physical profiling: Each player undertakes anthropological testing, power and speed testing and an analysis on their movement patterns. All the results are combined into a report that outlines each players strengths and weaknesses.
- Observation: The players have the opportunity to learn from the best from observing a SKYCITY Breakers training session. Q&A with the SKYCITY Breakers players forms part of the segment where the young players are able to ask the SKYCITY Breakers anything from specific skill queries to their own basketball journey and what it takes to become a professional athlete. The different pathways and opportunities that exist for a junior players looking to become a professional basketball player is explained.
- Training & Individual Skill Development: Aside from the daily training sessions under instruction from the Elite Development Coaches, including Judd Flavell (Former Tall Black and Head of Elite Development) and Michael Fitchett (Former Tall Black & High Performance Manager), the young players will get the opportunity to meet SKYCITY Breakers coach Dean Vickerman, who will take them for a coaching sessions with several SKYCITY Breakers players to help train and develop the young players’ skills through a series of set drills.
- Post Camp: After the camp, each player will receive an individual player evaluation that will help to guide the development of their skills, so they can improve and work towards becoming a professional basketball player in the future.
