The SKYCITY Breakers will be well represented when the Tall Blacks take to the court in the FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut tonight, with the opening game featuring our young Kiwi side against Kazakhstan, tipping off at 10:30pm NZT.
Our very own livewire guard Shea Ili will set the tone for the New Zealanders running the point, with Finn Delany also likely to be in the starting line up alongside former Breaker Reuben Te Rangi and 2016/17 Breaker Jordan Ngatai, with Sam Timmins (Washington University) at centre.
The support case is Breaker led as well, with new signing James Hunter asked to make an impact off the bench, as will 2016/17 development players Derone Raukawa and Ethan Rusbatch, both of whom have found great form on the China leg of the tour.
The Asia Cup will be a great test for this young team, one that SKYCITY Breakers and Tall Blacks Head Coach Paul Henare has chosen with an eye for the future. Tonight’s game is followed by Pool C games against Lebanon and South Korea, with the top team in the pool guaranteed a spot in the quarter finals, while second and third will play off against Pool D for a spot in the last eight of the tournament.
