Two rounds to play, the playoff equation is no more clear – for the SKYCITY Breakers or indeed just about every team in the league except Adelaide (confirmed as Minor Premiers) and Brisbane (the only team out of the playoff picture).
Incredibly with two wins the Breakers will keep themselves very much in the equation for a shot at another championship, with the possibility of next Friday’s final regular season home game against Melbourne being a winner takes all game.
It is not surprising then that tickets are selling fast for that game at the North Shore Events Centre, with the added possibility of a return to the playing court for Akil Mitchell just to ramp up the emotion. Hardly surprising then that the recommendation from General Manager Dillon Boucher is ‘get your tickets now’.
“We still have absolute faith in the team’s ability to turn the weekend around and get the two wins, of course we do. They have shown it throughout the season, we are capable of beating anyone on our day and I know they have the character and ability within the playing and coaching group to start with a win in Adelaide on Saturday.
“Whatever happens we want our final home game to be a special one, and the way ticket sales are going that looks like being a fun night to end a challenging regular season. I recommend that you get in now to secure your seat for a night that might yet see us secure that final win to get us in the playoffs.”
Understandably the team is focused solely on the trip to Adelaide and responding to arguably their poorest performance of the season in Sydney on the weekend.
But for the fans, the final chance to have an influence is Friday February 10 at the NSEC and there is no better way to do that than with a sellout, partisan home crowd come tip-off.
